Most extreme gamma ray burst

The Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope (FGST) witnessed the highest energy gamma-ray burst ever. It is calculated to be 12.2 billion light-years away.

Gamma rays are high-energy electromagnetic radiation. They emitted when nuclei change energy levels. Gamma-ray bursts are believed to occur from explosions of dying stars.
